How often do we say we want to lose those last five pounds, or maybe the first five pounds in my case, but we’re not willing to take the first step to help that happen? I am the world’s worst! What’s that saying, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”? So true.
I am sure that Jesus saw this play out many times over in his brief ministry on earth. He must have encountered different people who asked to be healed for this or that, but didn’t want it enough to believe it could happen. Matthew 20:32 and Mark 10:35 are two situations where Jesus was addressed by blind men seeking their sight. In both scriptures, for whatever reason, Jesus felt the need to specifically ask the question, “What do you want me to do for you?” In both instances, the blind men answered that they wanted to see.
Do you want to recover from the pain of sexual abuse or assault? Do you want to be healed?
It requires some effort. Recovering from the devastation of sexual abuse is not easy, and oftentimes it can be a painful process. God wants to walk us through that process, and set us free from the past, as only He can do.
His part is to provide the healing.
Our part is to make the decision that we want to be healed.
What is that next step in your healing process that God is calling you to take? Maybe it’s finding a good Christian counselor or joining a support group for survivors. It could be a simple as sharing your story with someone you trust. Are you ready to make the choice to do it and move forward in your journey to heal?
