Don’t you just “love” getting those gifts at Christmas that seem to say, “I love you, but not enough to actually buy something useful…so, here you go…Merry Christmas!” Whenever we buy an expensive gift for one of our children, we’ll often mask that gift with one of “those” gifts just to throw them off track and get a few good laughs out of the deal! (left is a picture of my son last year getting a donut maker in place of the DSi he wanted for Christmas…yes, we got him the DSi too ;))
Now, I can find a use for any gift I get…even “those” gifts, and I’m thankful that the giver thought of me enough to give me anything to start with! But isn’t it great when we are given gifts that cost someone time, thought and effort?
God’s love, through his son Jesus, is just that kind of gift, and so much more. God’s love is priceless and it is sacrificial. His expression of love for us involves the highest level of sacrifice. John 3:16 illuminates this when it says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son…”
Wow. Talk about a gift!
The gift of Christmas is the love of God for us, through his son Jesus. We celebrate Christmas because Jesus, the hope of the world, was born. He is the gift that says, “I will move heaven and earth…pay the highest price…make the ultimate sacrifice, ALL because I love you.”
Have you received God’s gift of love, his son Jesus?
If not, I pray you will today. God will meet you where your are, right now. Simply pray this prayer with me to receive Jesus into your heart…
“Jesus, I admit that I am a very imperfect person. I have sinned against you and others, and I am truly sorry. I want to have a new beginning with you, and a clean slate! Come into my life, Jesus, and make my heart your home. Take over my mind, my thoughts, my desires, my body and my emotions. Help me to live as a new person. I know that I am not perfect, but I understand that I am perfectly loved by you and can finally find freedom and hope because of your great love for me. In your holy name I pray, Amen.”
