The pain of our past bears a heavy weight of guilt. It influences how we behave and the choices we make. But we don’t have to carry the weight of past with us. We can move forward, start fresh and be set free to live full lives in Jesus Christ. A key step is accepting God’s forgiveness in the mistakes we’ve made, and let God take are of the rest.
Part of the guilt we carry as survivors involves the abuse, and part of it involves some of the poor decisions we’ve made that stem from the abuse. Though we were not at fault for the abuse/assault we suffered, there are other times in our lives that we can point to that qualify us as sinners.
Sin separates us from God. He doesn’t want us to be separated from Him. He continually desires to be in a close relationship with us, and paid the ultimate sacrifice of Christ’s death on the cross to make that possible. It is through our belief in Jesus Christ: His death and resurrection, that we are reconciled to God. It is because of Jesus that we can be forgiven for our sins, and enjoy the full benefits of a deep relationship with our heavenly Father. The key is to take that step of faith and receive that forgiveness.
