What are you filling your heart with today?
Is it the things of this world, or the bread of life?
It’s so easy to fill our days to the brim with busy-ness in our jobs, family activities, schoolwork, time with friends, and just all sorts of “stuff”. Quiet time alone with God can be like a stray cat that we find ourselves chasing throughout the day.
Do you find it difficult to make time for God?
When I find myself eventually catching that stray cat, discouragement and exhaustion are usually right there with me. I love what Paul prays over the saints in the book of Ephesians about being rooted in Christ:
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have the power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Eph. 16-18, NIV)
How are we “rooted and established” in love? By spending time with God in prayer, and in His Word. We are strengthened with power by His Spirit in our “inner being” when we make time for him. I don’t know about you, but I need all the strength I can get to just get through my daily “stuff”!
