At this very time, for the past 18 years, I am reminded of the season in my life that I fell in love with my husband Wes. I was in my second year of college when it happened. He kind of wormed his way into my heart that summer, and I was never the same. What attracted me to him the most, aside from his good looks and country charm, was something that remains true of him today.
His undeniable faith in Jesus Christ.
I’m not saying he was perfect…oh no…not by a long shot! But, he was learning the art of “abiding” in Christ. He had a quiet strength that seemed to come from deep within. Things didn’t shake him very easily, because he was anchored in Christ.
I love that about him still today.
The impact that his faith had on mine is eternal. I am convinced that the Lord paired us together for His purposes. God has used him in my life in so many ways alone, as well as the lives of others. His ministry as a husband, father, and friend is profound. He has been a living example to me of John 15:5, where Jesus calls us to remain in Him. It says,
“I am the vine and you are the branches. If a man remain in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, NIV)
The lifelong lesson to me as a woman growing in her walk with Christ, is that I am most productive, successful, happy, and fulfilled when Christ is at the center of my life. When I “remain” in him. Like a tree firmly planted, my faith will be rooted and established in such a way that nothing can shake me.
Is this true for you today? Who are the “trees” in your life that set the example of abiding in Christ?
